DF65’s v Storm Debi!!

Monday 13 Nov – Series 5 Race 8

We had the strong winds forecast (Storm Debi) and fortunately the overnight rain ended before we started – we even had some sunshine.

7 hardy DF65 skippers turned up with their B and C rigs. Unfortunately, Alan Nash (56) had a leak and his boat was close to sinking when retrieved from the lake.
The C rigs had the edge today with big waves and heavy gusts. Tacking was difficult and ‘granny’ turns using a gybe upwind became common (although a bit confusing). The other hazard today were all the autumn leaves floating near the surface.

It was very close at the top today with Richard Filer (35) winning on countback with 3 wins and a second. Paul Heaney (422) was second with 2 wins and 3 seconds. Ian Proctor (823) was third gradually getting to grips with his larger B rig improving each race after the break with a win and a second.
