Monday 16 Feb – Series 1 Race 11
The forecast was correct today with a strong Westerly breeze of 15-35mph. Most of the fleet started on A+ rigs as there was a brief lull before the first race. However, the guts became stronger by the end of the race and we had a short break while the whole fleet changed to A rigs. The wind continued to increase and most of the fleet dusted off their B rigs and changed down again during the coffee break. By the last race we had regular gusts exceeding 30mph (C rig territory!).
A special mention goes to Ian Parker (819) who managed to complete all the races with his A rig – he got quite excited each time he managed to tack in the tough conditions. Ian Proctor (823) was unfortunate to get caught in the ‘gust of the day’ when he needed to tack for the windward mark while leading. Ian had to do a gybe-tack to avoid hitting the far bank.
Our winner on countback today (with identical results and a win in the last race) was Paul Heaney (422) with 3 wins and 3 seconds. Second was Ian Proctor (823) also with 3 wins and 3 seconds. Third was Adrian Wallis (81) with a consistent set of high place finishes. Fourth was Andy Smith (37) with 2 wins (one by some margin).
Chris Flewitt (182) also won Race 1.
