Report by Suzanne Lewis
A good turnout of boats – 8 in total: 1) Susanne Lewis and Eric Meighen sail number 20, 2) Peter Stollery and Roger Stollery sn 44, 3) Oliver Stollery and Roger Stollery sn 39, 4), Peter Fothergill and Paul Edwards sn 98, 5) Lewis Wyeth sn 77, 6) Russell Wyeth sn 04, 7) Thomas Wyeth sn 07, and 8) Shaun Wyeth sn 99. Eric and I were still in the club house getting ready, so were not pictured above. Roger Stollery was the photographer, so also absent!
It was a lovely day with plenty of sun. However, there was a ‘Bourneville tribute’ erratic and fluky wind. The kind of wind where the pair in front veer right, corrected for by the next pair who then veer left. Or the boats diverge on leaving the line, or worse, converge and a re-sail is required. Why is it that one has the perfect trim (twice) when it’s a re-sail and then not when it isn’t? Why is it one’s competitors get it so wrong when they’re sailing someone else and sail perfectly when one sails them? These are the conundrums enjoyed so much by vane sailors!
The event was organized by Jacque Cook and between Jacque and Graham Wyeth we were set us off and the score was kept. The results were close for positions 1 and 2 (25 and 24), 3 and 4 (21 and 20) and 5 and 6 (16 and 15); with only 1 mark between each pair.
The results were as follows:
1st | Peter Fothergill and Paul Edwards |
2nd | Shaun Wyeth |
3rd | Peter Stollery and Roger Stollery |
4th | Russell Wyeth |
5th | Susanne Lewis and Eric Meighen |
6th | Oliver Stollery and Roger Stollery |
7th | Lewis Wyeth |
8th | Thomas Wyeth |
Following the sailing we had the prize giving in the clubhouse with a selection of interesting prizes. The 2022 March Hare glasses were also given to Susanne and Eric. We were both delighted!
