Presenting the trophy to the two winners!

Mick Thomas Trophy 2026
For the first time since the race was started back in 2011, there was a tie which could not be broken. So there will be two names for 2026 on the trophy – congratulations to Max Buttimer who raced without a crew and did quite a bit of running! Also congratulations to Peter Fothergill and Paul Edwards. It is a fun race which requires thought/strategy on behalf of the competitors. This is because the trophy is in memory of Mick Thomas who not only was an excellent House Manager for many years for the club, but also, he loved sailing his Vane 36. He usually finished around the middle of the fleet. Therefore the winner, or in this case, winners, are the skippers that finish around the middle. The boats all start together and there are no re-sails for collisions. Simple rules – keep feet still when re-trimming the boat and no deliberate loitering! Well done to all competitors for a great day’s racing.
