GMYBC – Working Party – Tuesday 17 March – Request for Volunteers

From 10:00 am on Tuesday 17 March, a working party is needed for the task of clearing up the edges of the Lake.  It is currently being drained and by that time, there will be very little water in it.  We usually finish work at lunchtime.  This initiative will help us to enjoy a better model yachting experience throughout the Sailing Season.

So, if you are willing and able, please turn up next Tuesday, equipped with gloves, boots and ideally, a pick-up stick.  We try to operate safely and to that end, important points to note are as follows:

  1. Our Lake Manager, Paul Edwards, sustained an ankle injury while acting as RO for the IOM Fleet last week.  He will therefore have to supervise, largely from a static position.  The grass banks are wet and muddy – do take care when walking on them.
  2. Do not venture out into the Lake, because the deep mud is dangerous; instead, stay close to the banks, where the risk is minimal.  Avoid the temptation to rescue IOM keels, RCL rudders etc, from the middle of the Lake bed, even if the price of such items is probably about to rocket owing to Donald Duck’s cowboy activities in the Middle East.
  3. We will have refreshments at some point in the morning – please observe the need for good hand hygiene.  Deposits left by swans, geese, gulls and The Cormorant are not good for your digestive system.
  4. Avoid bringing mud and dirt into the Clubhouse on the soles of your boots – spare footwear is useful.
