DF65 Monday Series 3 Race 7
To begin with the weather looked unfavourable with light mizzle and light wind but the rain did not turn into anything significant and the day brightened up improving everybody’s mood except the race team who had to contend with a wind that oscillated between the Southwest and West making course laying very difficult.
It was good to welcome two existing Members who normally race multihulls to the DF65 fleet Their company had purchased 6no. DF65 for their employees to race at Hythe Marina in their lunch hours. So, Chris Godfrey and Simon Woolley thought they would come along to GMYBC and see how they compared to the home DF65 fleet. The answer was very well, seeing they only had A Rigs and it was very much A+ Rig weather, achieving mid fleet positions in a number of races was quite an achievement. They both seemed to enjoy themselves and hoping to return soon – when it is A rig weather??
As previously mentioned, the large wind shifts lead to many changes of position in the 16 boat fleet during the race, however consistency at the finish line was what counted. Jamie Wilson with 4 first places and 2 third places to count won the day from Andy Smith who was only one point behind with 3 first places, 1 second place and 2 third places to count. Despite what seems domination by these two fine sailors the racing was very close with often other boats overlapping them as they went across the line. It was good to see newish member Chris Flewitt coming in third a further 5 points behind and Rob Andrews was 4th just a further 2 points behind him.
With Adrian Wallis deserting us for a trip to Sicily the overall series situation makes interesting reading with Adrian & Andy Smith equal points with Neil Baxter hard on their heels.
At the end of racing our own Ozzy Osbourne turned up on his third farewell visit before heading south – Paul you have opportunities this Wednesday & next Monday to take the record of most farewell appearances!! Looking forward to seeing you.
Whilst on the subject of this Wednesday’s racing don’t for get the start time has been brought forward 1700hrs to avoid the need for navigation lights!!
