Saturday 11th April would see the final round of the RC Laser Winter series raced on the North Lake.
10 boats contested the event with C rigs being needed in a stiff Westerly, although this did present an opportunity for a good course making full use of the size of the smaller lake.
Chris Moore very much started as he meant to go on with wins in the first 2 heats. Over the eight heats there would eventually be 4 different race winners, Chris with 4, Terry Mason with 2 and John Smith and David Swainson 1 each. It was then down to the consistency of good finishing places to determine the final order. Chris was able to discard a 4th and a 6th place so was the worthy winner with 9 points net.
Terry came home in 2nd with net 13 having discarded his 5th and 6th, a testament to his consistency being no other place lower than 3rd. John came 4th with net 16 and David made 4th with net 19.
The winter series had of course been affected by the lack of water during January but it was still the best 7 results to count towards the series winner.
In fact Chris had been so consistent that despite only having been able to attend 6 out of the 7 meetings he took the series by 2 points with Gross 62.
It would be wrong to try and separate Denis Bookham, Colin Cooper and Paul Nesbitt, all on 60 points gross with Richard Johnson and John Smith tied on 50 gross for 5th place overall.
Chris then takes the first award of the season but will he be allowed to continue to dominate?
First race day of the Summer Series and round 5 overall of the main series to be raced on Saturday 18th April on the main lake.
