On an evening when, if you could keep more than one 5th or 6th place off your scores, you would do well, 6 skippers turned out using the small lake as weed problems meant the main lake was too risky.
A good enough strong breeze from the South West although with some memorable shifts allowed a course from the North East corner of the North lake, up to No6 in the centre, down to No 4 in the South East corner, back round No5 and up to 6 again, back down to 5, up to 6, down to 4 and finish between 5 and the bank.
A rig was out of the question so mainly B rig was adopted although Sam Nesbitt opted for C rig but clearly suffered on the downwind and reaching legs.
Eventually 3 first places for John Smith gave him the win with 8 points net, followed by Paul Nesbitt with 11 net including 2 wins. David Swainson with one win pipped Terry Mason to third place on countback (14 net each) and Mark Barker wasn’t able to consistently repeat a couple of really good races to come fifth overall with 20 net.
All in all an enjoyable evening when with the setting sun coming in and out of the clouds there would be times when mark 5 in particular was difficult to see in the dazzling sun and we felt like shedding a layer of outer clothing only for the cloud to obscure the sun making it feel quite chilly.
