The Club Anniversary weekend championships got off to a good start with Radio A’s.
A keen enough breeze from the South East meant that top rig was likely to be pushing your luck so most of the 9 skippers opted to go down to No. 2 suit, or reduced roach.
Out on the water, these beautiful boats would provide a classic sight in water which was occasionally quite choppy when gusts came through.
Derek Morland went for a fuller rig than most and managed to carry it really well. With race wins in 6 of the 10 heats and such good consistency that if he didn’t win he came second, he won the event with a net 10 points.
Peter Fothergill (2nd with 15 net) and Mike Nichols (3rd with 27 net) were the only other heat winners.
Chris Durant started late but showed with his recently acquired Sword that once he gets used to it, he will become a challenger.
Thanks are due to Lester Gilbert (RO) and Jacque Cook and David Swainson (finishing line and observer respectively) for their support.
