IOM main series Sunday 24 May

The morning started with a steady breeze from the South West but after a couple of heats swung round to a South Easterly necessitating a change in course.

Once settled, albeit with some interesting shifts the course was set starting in the North West corner of the small lake owing to weed issues in the main lake, with a beat diagonally across the lake to Mark 4.  Reach up to Mark 5, run/reach back to 8 at the start, across again to 4,back to 8 and a final beat across to a short finish line in the South East corner.

Perhaps because it was a bank holiday, or was it that there is concern about sailing on the small lake? but only 5 boats turned out.

Lester Gilbert was in fine form taking 4 heat wins from the 8 races and won with 8 points net.  Chris Durant, although expressing some concern as to why his Britpop wouldn’t go faster or point so high sailed very consistently with just 1 heat win but 2nd place overall with net 12.  Two heat wins for Mr Inconsistency (John Smith) managed to just secure 3rd place net 14 and Robert Hobbs with his new Britpop 4th with net 16.

In the end the wind direction turned out to be a blessing as we were able to use the full diagonal length of the small lake to achieve in effect 3 beating legs but with NO WEED issues.

Next meeting for IOMs Sunday 31st May on the small lake for a round of the club handicap series.
