IOM Round 3 - 22/3/15

11 boats turned out on a beautiful sunny day.  Plenty of breeze at times although one of the most challenged people was Paul acting as RO and setting courses.

Early North Easterly swung round South Easterly as the day wore on but there were times when, if you tacked on the first header, you were met with another immediately and then yet another within what seemed no time atall.

5 of the 11 boats were Britpops and whilst Derek Morland got off to a good start with wins in Heats 1 & 3, Chris Treagust was being unusually inconsistent with wins in heats 4, 6 & 8 but where did those 7th and 8th positions come from Chris?

The 2 most consistent, without actually winning a heat were John Galyer and Colin Cooper.  There were wins also for John Smith and Mike Nichols (2).

Paul was able to make excellent use of the majority of the lake to set some great courses.  Weather held up well and manners were excellent throughout.

In the end Derek managed to ease his way to an overall win with Net 11 but John Galyer (2nd) Chris Treagust (3rd) and Colin Cooper (4th) were only separated by a point apiece.

The post lunch p.m. series was sailed in more steady breeze with some extremely close finishes.   Poor old Derek had to discard his 2nd place!!!! to get a score of 5 Net from the 6 heats – great sailing, Colin came home second and John Smith and Mike Nichols couldn’t be separated (that doesn’t mean we had a fight) other than by countback with my 2nd place in the last heat just clinching it.
